Welcome

Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging problems. Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow.

Rise Counseling Group is a social justice based private practice in Dayton, OH. We focus on improving the mental health and wellness of women of color. We offer them space to heal and have hope when dealing with anxiety and depression. We believe in “having the conversation” to help clients be released from the junk they carry with them day to day as women, daughters, sisters, mothers, and partners.

Helping Women of Color Heal
If you can't fly, then run. If you can't run, then If you can't fly, then run.
If you can't run, then walk.
If you can't walk, then crawl.
But by all means, keep moving.

We've made a lot of progress, but we're far from done. Happy MLK Day!

Closure can look like: -An apology -Financial co Closure can look like:

-An apology
-Financial compensation
-Learning the cause of a loved one’s passing
-A ritual to mark the end of a relationship
-Meeting with an ex to discuss why the relationship ended

We seek closure because we all want answers; HOWEVER, just because we find out the answer, that doesn’t mean the pain will end. In fact, it can even worsen our pain.

We feel women benefit the most when they get a safe space to recognize the emotions they are actually experiencing and deal with them appropriately.

Call it closure, if you’d like, but the goal is to not get wrapped up in what closure “looks like” from the outside, but it’s real purpose is to help us all move on after a loss. When we experience loss of trauma, we are all just looking for a resolution.

When you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed, one t When you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed, one thing we suggest is writing down all your worries throughout the day in something called a “Worry List.” Wait until the end of the day to check your list. If the worries you jotted down still bug you, allow yourself to worry about them now… but under a controlled environment or “worry period.”

Worry Period: A set place and time every day that’s early enough to get all your worries out before bed. The rest of your day is a “worry-free zone.”

You’ll find it’s a lot easier to address your worries during your worry period; it gives you a more balanced perspective. If your worries don’t seem that important anymore, that’s great! Cut the worry period short, and get on with the rest of your day!

Depression can mess with our ability to set health Depression can mess with our ability to set healthy boundaries because it makes it hard for us to ourselves and our needs first. We fear we will disappoint our partners or let down our friends if we don’t agree to do things we don’t want to do, tolerate bad behavior, and revert to people-pleasing.

Depression can also chip away at our self-esteem, making it difficult to stand up for ourselves. We’ll avoid conflict, and stay silent instead of communicating our needs in the moment, which can fuel later resentment.

We can’t be responsible for anyone’s happiness. If we try too hard, we’ll only end up overextended, anxious, and guilty.

If depression can make us feel detached from ourselves, then it’s time to get reacquainted. Start by becoming aware of your boundaries and really define what you want them to be.
